Roger N. Lopez

Roger Lopez was from Northfield, MA. As a 2nd LT and pilot in the United States Air Force he flew B-25's, in addition to other aircraft types. As a civilian in 1970, he came upon the opportunity to fly this B-25 from Turners Falls, MA to somewhere in New York State (specific destination unknown). It's believed that the aircraft was to be used in front of a restaurant as a static display. Because the aircraft had not been flown in a while and Roger had not flown this type aircraft in several years, he had to make some landings at a nearby airport in Orange, MA. There, he was supposed to have himself and the plane checked out by the FAA. The exact details of what happened I am unsure of but on either his first attempt to land at Orange or on the second go around the aircraft inverted on landing. Roger was killed instantly. He was 36 years old. He was unmarried and had no children, but left behind his parents and a sister and her family.

Special thanks to Roger's nephew, Mark Perez, for providing this information.
